From digital banking to AI meal planning, Brits are increasingly turning to technology to simplify everyday life admin, and now, one founder is tackling one of marriage’s most notoriously time-consuming tasks: changing your name.

New app, Name Change Navigator, has launched to help users seamlessly update their surname across official documents, banks, subscriptions and workplace systems, all from one easy-to-use platform. Take care of everything right from your phone's homescreen.

The launch comes as conversations around marital surnames continue to evolve. Research from YouGov found younger women are increasingly rethinking traditional naming conventions, with many opting to keep, double-barrel or create entirely new surnames after marriage. Meanwhile, data from the UK Deed Poll Office shows surname changes remain hugely common, with women accounting for more than 85% of post-marriage name changes.

Designed to remove the stress and mental load of updating personal details across dozens of organisations, Name Change Navigator guides users through the process step-by-step, helping them avoid the endless spreadsheets, forgotten accounts and repetitive forms often associated with name changes.

The app was founded by Rebecca Dainton, Head of Product at Flutter UK & Ireland, whose expertise in creating seamless digital user experiences inspired the platform after seeing firsthand how fragmented and frustrating the name-change process can be.

Rebecca Dainton, founder of Name Change Navigator and Head of Product at Flutter UK & Ireland, said: “Changing your name should be an exciting milestone, not months of frustrating admin. I created Name Change Navigator to take the stress out of the process and give people a smarter, more organised way to manage it.

“People are already using technology to simplify everything from budgeting to grocery shopping, so it made sense to create a tool that modernises one of life’s most outdated admin tasks. I wanted to build something intuitive, efficient and genuinely useful during a major life moment.”

The app also reflects wider cultural shifts around identity and modern relationships. While many couples still choose traditional surname changes, there is growing demand for more flexible options, including double-barrelling, blended surnames and non-traditional family naming choices.

Name Change Navigator aims to support newlyweds with name changes after marriage. Whether it's taking your partner's name, double barrelling or blending names.

As life admin increasingly becomes a focus for overwhelmed consumers juggling busy schedules, the platform hopes to bring convenience and clarity to a process many still describe as unnecessarily complicated.
