Your West Midlands Wedding chats to Charlotte Cope of Perfect Cakes Co to find out all about the baker behind the brand! "My journey into baking began after the first ever GBBO when my mother bought me Mary Berry's book," shares Charlotte. "After trying out all the bakes I slowly gravitated towards cakes. Initially cupcakes, which extended into occasion cakes, four years ago this evolved into including wedding cakes." Read on to find out more.

What's your favourite part of wedding cake designing/making? My favourite part of wedding cake designing is finding out about the couple's wedding ideas and sharing in their joy of planning their big day. Coming up with unique and personalised designs to suit their style and personality. I also love delivering the cakes on the morning of the wedding and getting a sneak peak of the beautiful venues sometimes before even the bride and groom have had a chance to see their vision come to life.

What's been your favourite cake design? As a country girl I love creating my bespoke country scene hand-painted designs. They are so personal to the couple and give them a chance to include snippets of their personalities, whilst keeping the cake classy and elegant. Although I do also love unique elegant, sugar flower designs like the classy drape cake.

Top wedding tip: Have a think about how you are going to serve your wedding cake after the cutting photos. You have invested a significant amount of money on your cake and although it will look showstopping, there's nothing worse than seeing it go to waste.
Will you ask someone to serve the cake around? Will you place the cut pieces in a prominent place (next to the evening food/ by the bar)?  I always say to my brides that I suggest they only cut one half of each tier initially and serve that. This way if it's not all eaten, it doesn't go to waste and the other halves can be sent home with family and friends the following day. If the first cuts disappear quickly, then you have a whole second half to send out still. Weddings are a huge investment so any way of ensuring couples get value for money and less waste is great in my eyes.

Go-to comfort-eating dessert? Favourite comfort eating desert is either hot chocolate fudge cake with vanilla ice cream or sticky toffee pudding (two flavours that I have integrated into my wedding cakes).
