April/May 2024

Welcome to our April/May issue! I love this time of year partly because I adore spring weddings but also because of the new wedding dress collections. This issue is one of my favourites to write and I always get excited seeing the stunning gowns that are available in our lovely region.

I got married a few years ago, so I know how stressful finding the perfect dress can be. I had no idea what style I wanted, but my wonderful consultant helped me pick my dream A-line gown. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the amount of choice available, make sure you listen to your consultant. They have years of experience and have helped brides of every shape and size find their dream gown, so they will know what looks good on you even if you don’t yourself. Go to your appointment with a rough idea of what you like, but try to keep an open mind. On paper, it might not be what you want, but it still might be the one. If you’re not sure where to start, check out our fashion section for heaps of inspiration.

Happy planning!

Rugby School

With some of the most splendid buildings in the Midlands, Rugby School is a dreamy setting for wedding services and receptions. Rich in history, it offers a combination of heritage and beautifully maintained grounds in elegant yet understated surroundings. Dating back to the early 18th century, the venue is steeped in tradition yet ideally suited to a contemporary, modern-day wedding.

Boasting several venues, you are able to choose from spaces that encapsulate the history and heritage of the school or more contemporary, modern facilities that provide sleek backdrops and areas for you to transform into the ideal setting for your event.

Atmospheric historical buildings, manicured grounds and first-class facilities are just a few elements that create the 400-acre site of Rugby School and the 90-acre site of Bilton Grange, making them perfect for weddings.

Rugby School has its own civil ceremony license, which means those couples looking to be married by the Warwickshire Registration Service are able to do so in the two approved venues, Old Big School or the outdoor venue Old Quad.

Recent changes to the law mean that you are now able to have a service anywhere within Rugby School, which then must be followed by a smaller legal service in one of the approved venues. You could use the pavilion as your summer wedding backdrop, exchange rings on the Macready Theatre stage, or if you’re a rugby fanatic, why not say ‘I do’ directly under the rugby posts at the birthplace of the game?

Under special license from the Archbishop of Canterbury, the glorious school chapel is available to be used by those who have an affiliation with the school for a wedding service. Pews for the congregation face each other in this chapel designed by Butterworth and there is enough seating for up to 600 guests.

There are a number of indoor and outdoor spaces that can be used for drinks receptions, wedding breakfasts and evening receptions. The smallest venue, Old School Hall, can accommodate a wedding party of 15, Old Big School up to 80, Temple Speech Room up to 150, or a marquee in the grounds, which can seat up to 400 people.

Six things you need to insure when tying the knot

Six things you need to insure when tying the knot

As wedding season draws nearer, couples are scrambling to tie up loose ends and ensure their special day goes off without a hitch. Amidst the excitement and anticipation, there have been 11K Google searches for 'wedding insurance' in the past month alone. The insurance experts at Bionic have looked into some of the most useful insurances to have for your big day. As of 2023, the average amount spent on wedding venues in the UK was nearly £8,000, meaning a significant amount of money would be at stake if the day were to be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances affecting the venue. Similarly, the average spent on wedding videography and photography was nearly £3,000. In the event of any technical faults on the day, you could be at risk of memories of your special day not being captured, and also losing out on thousands if you weren't to take out cover.
