Why St Lucia is the ultimate island for couples, according to new data

St Lucia view

St Lucia has just been crowned the world's No.1 trending island on a leading industry list, with traveller interest up 125% year-on-year (1), and it's earned special recognition as the top destination for romance.

New insights from Destination2 reveal exactly what makes St Lucia the island of choice for couples. Katie Evans, Product Manager, also shares which other Caribbean islands are best suited to different types of travellers, from family-friendly all-inclusives, adrenaline-fuelled adventure, or culture-and-cuisine-led escapes; the Caribbean's dozens of islands each bring their own character.

Most Romantic Caribbean Island

The enchanting island of St Lucia has everything for an exhilarating getaway in the sun with your partner.

Katie explains, "For a romantic Caribbean escape, Saint Lucia is hard to beat. Its dramatic Piton peaks, volcanic beaches and lush rainforest make for a stunning backdrop; spots like Anse Chastanet offer world-class snorkelling, and Reduit Beach is perfect for lazing together in the sun. For couples, nothing beats a sunset cruise along the coast, a great way to round off your trip."

"When seeking a refined Caribbean retreat, the 5-star Zoëtry Marigot Bay St. Lucia is worth considering. Set on a hillside overlooking the Pitons and the historic Marigot Bay, the resort pairs striking natural scenery with attentive, personalised service. Guests can expect elegant accommodation, a well-regarded spa and some of the island's strongest culinary offerings."

The Dominican Republic Beach Spot

Best Caribbean Island for beach lovers

The Dominican Republic is a haven for beach lovers. With over 200 white-sand beaches, you'll have no trouble finding the perfect spot to relax with a book in tow.

Katie recommends visiting "Bavaro Beach in Punta Cana as it is a top pick for snorkelling. This 20-kilometre stretch of coastline is ideal not just for unwinding but also for exploring its protected coral reef. Natural pools and swaying palm trees line the shore, creating the perfect backdrop for your morning read."

"For accommodation, the Impressive Resort and Spa in Punta Cana sits right on the shores of El Cortecito Beach, making it an ideal getaway for beach lovers with soft, powdery white sand just steps from your door."

Turtle Beach Barbados

Caribbean island for families

Barbados stands out as the Caribbean's most complete island destination, offering families an effortless blend of luxury, culture and adventure.

"Turtle Beach Barbados is ideal for families eager to begin their holiday without delay, sitting just 15 minutes from the airport," says Katie. "The resort delivers a robust all-inclusive experience paired with a vibrant beachfront setting, where complimentary water sports keep every member of the family entertained."

"A short drive away, Bridgetown's UNESCO-listed Garrison Savannah offers something rarer: a genuinely engaging historical experience for children and adults alike. Between the thrill of live horse racing, local street food vendors and access to centuries-old forts, cannons, barracks and hidden tunnels, it's a destination to visit."

St Kitts and Nevis Island View

Best views for photo-loving travellers

St Kitts and Nevis owe their breathtaking scenery to volcanic origins, which have shaped a rugged topography of black volcanic cliffs and dramatic elevation changes, now cloaked in rainforest and framed by pristine coastline.

Katie shares viewpoints for the trip: "The Southeast Peninsula of St Kitts unfolds in rolling hills and dramatic vantage points, where visitors can take in the churning Atlantic, the tranquil Caribbean Sea, and the silhouette of neighbouring Nevis."

"Perched high above the island, Brimstone Hill Fortress, an 18th-century UNESCO World Heritage Site, commands unobstructed panoramic views across the Caribbean Sea and the surrounding islands, a fitting reward for the climb."

"To stay, the Montpellier Nevis delivers a secluded sanctuary tucked into the hills of Nevis. This boutique property pairs understated luxury with untouched natural beauty, set amid acres of verdant tropical gardens."

St Kitts and Nevis Daytime View

Culture-driven travellers

Jamaica is one of the Caribbean's most famous islands, with a cultural influence that has been transported around the world.

Katie explains, "Jamaica is an island where music, food and landscape are woven together so tightly that even a short visit feels like immersion. Kingston's Bob Marley Museum offers a serious look at the movement that carried reggae worldwide, while authentic jerk cooking, Jamaican patties and Blue Mountain Coffee tell their own story of culinary craft passed down through generations. Adventures like a bamboo raft ride down the Martha Brae River or a climb through Dunn's River Falls connect visitors to traditions that predate mass tourism entirely."

"Jamaica Inn distinguishes itself as one of the island's most refined retreats, pairing old-world elegance with an immersive sense of place. The property's signature rumology program offers guests a rare, hands-on introduction to Jamaica's storied rum culture—no departure from the grounds required."

Turks and Caicos Resort Entrance

Best island for active travellers

Turks and Caicos has quietly become a proving ground for travellers who measure a holiday by heart rate rather than hammock hours. A huge surge (150%) in TikTok searches in the past three months for "Turks and Caicos" suggests travellers are turning to the app for advice.

Katie recommends, "On Grand Turk, visitors hike past wild horses roaming free along the shore, while divers travel from across the globe to plunge into The Wall, a 7,000-foot drop along the continental shelf. Beyond the water, adventurers can explore historic sites like the 1852 Grand Turk Lighthouse or get their adrenaline fix with dune buggy safaris, quad biking, canyoning, and sailing."

"At Beaches Turks and Caicos, the itinerary never really pauses; it simply becomes more effortless. Guests can move seamlessly from guided scuba diving excursions to a robust lineup of recreational offerings, including volleyball and croquet."
