New customer data from The Diamond Store reveals a shift towards elevated, individual versions of timeless engagement ring styles, with oval diamonds, trilogy settings, and coloured gemstones among the fastest-growing trends.
Oval is is becoming the modern classic - round diamonds remain the most popular choice overall, but oval is the fastest-growing core diamond shape, with sales up 74.7% year-on-year. The elongated silhouette offers a point of difference while retaining the timeless appeal of a diamond engagement ring, helping oval move from trend-led alternative to modern staple.
The trilogy ring is back - this traditional three-stone engagement ring is enjoying a revival, with trilogy styles up 72.6% year-on-year, making it the fastest-growing setting style in the data. The resurgence reflects a growing appetite for rings that combine classic symbolism with a more distinctive look. Contemporary trilogy designs are also being reimagined with different diamond shapes, gemstones, and modern settings.
Coloured gemstones are moving into the mainstream - diamonds still dominate, but coloured gemstones are becoming an increasingly established alternative for engagement rings. Emerald accounts for 54.3% of sales across The Diamond Store's lab-grown emerald, sapphire and ruby rings. However, sapphire is the colour to watch, with sales up 43.1% year-on-year, compared with 23.7% for ruby. The shift towards colour suggests growing demand for more individual, heirloom-inspired engagement rings.
Hidden details are adding a personal touch - the hidden halo is becoming a modern staple, with sales of hidden halo designs increasing 14.1% year-on-year. Rather than surrounding the centre stone visibly, the diamonds sit beneath it, creating an extra flash of sparkle from the side while keeping the overall design understated. It's part of a wider move towards secret or considered details that allow couples to personalise a classic ring without changing its fundamental silhouette.
In summary, round diamonds and classic settings remain hugely popular, but shoppers are increasingly choosing elongated cuts, three-stone designs, hidden details, and colour to make a familiar style feel more individual. In other words, 2026 is less about reinventing the engagement ring and more about putting a personal spin on the classics.
